Wow, I have no idea how I missed those posts..

Anyhow, ProSEL 8 has a utility called BeachComber that will do the deed should you desire.

Another quick and dirty way is to copy everything to another partition, erase and copy it back.

tdiaz on ProDOS 8 Partitioning

1 - I'd hoped to have it by now, it's moving a bit slower but progress is made and I should have something to preview in the next couple weeks, I'm told..

2 - I've not tried anything larger than 512M so far. I have a 1 and 2 gig, maybe i'll try them. But I have put 12 gig hard drives on there. Of course.. the partition(s) don't use the whole drive. There's a 30 partition max limit, per device. Even with using HFS's on the IIgs- thats still nuts with that many ProDOS partitions.

3 - Most of the cards will take the adapter as they sit. At some point back some ROM changes were made that ultimately facilitated the CF cards without that being the intended result, it just worked out that way. If your card is red and has the "Picasso" like IIgs on it - then it's probably got the ROM already. Unfortunately a lot of them don't have version numbers on the ROM from back then.

4 - As part of the //e utility release some of that information will be available, mostly in the way of source code. I don't have any docs other than source code at the moment but part of the intent is to make the source available on an individual basis with reason, to others. I really don't want to just post it. but it's otherwise going to be pretty much open. ... just want to keep tabs on whats going on.

1. Is there an 'estimate' on when the formatter for a //e will be available?

2. What is the max size CF card supported?

3. I have two 'older' Focus cards - one for the GS, and one for the //e. Will my cards support the CF adapter? If so, how can I order one, and what is the cost?

4. Do you publish the programming interface for the drive? I am particularly interested in the //e hardware/firmware access.

The reply and service you received from ///SSH is a bit surprising, though..
Postage back and forth may bring the final cost near another purchase - though still worth looking at.

Hi,

I have an old Focus controller which is out of order since years and I'd like to know if you offer a repair service for this hardware?
I sent it to ///SHH (http://www.wbwip.com/shh/) but Joachim said it was a low quality device and returned it to me in the same state.

Thank you for your answer.

tdiaz on Is FD DMA compatible?

The Focus does not use DMA, it's not incompatible. It's just not a DMA device. However it gives even the RAMFast a run for it's money. It's full 16 bit access with the GS/OS device driver installed. No DMA worries. It just works with everything.

I need to get some benchmarks posted.

DMA and incompatibilities are all over-rated. If DMA can't happen, the world does not crash. The SCSI card does not explode. It just.. shudder the thought, does not happen. All this bit about "if you have 8 megs you have to turn off DMA on your SCSI card" is just bunk. The IIgs handles it. The exception is the RAMPak 4 GS - you can't touch it with a 10 foot DMA pole. Due to features they added- they've screwed this one up.
